CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Aurora City Council Finance Committee has voted unanimously to advance a plan by the Hollywood Casino to seek greener pastures.

The proposal would allow Penn Gaming top move the Hollywood Casino from its current location on the Fox River downtown to city-owned land on Farnsworth Avenue across from the Chicago Premium Outlets Mall.

"As the first river boat casino in Aurora when it opened, the casino generated significant dollars -well above projections. Those revenues have steadily declined as gaming revenues and admissions decreased since 2007 where gaming taxes were nearly $16 million," said Trevor Dick, with the city’s office of Economic Development.

"Of course, we see the impact of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The number is near $6 million. The revenue and missions have been steadily declining."

The $360 million dollar relocation plan, according to a presentation, would not involve taxpayer funds.

It still needs approval by the full City Council.
