U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin highlighted a Tinley Park boy’s heart problems in the argument against confirming Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Democrat on Monday said President Trump nominated her in part because she’s expected to vote against the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
Durbin brought a poster of 6-year-old Kenny Murray to the Judiciary Committee hearing as he talked about how the boy’s family had already received $1 million in healthcare four months after he was born with multiple heart defects.
The ACA eliminated lifetime spending limits and required coverage of pre-existing conditions.
In a video shared by Durbin’s office, Sue Murray said she wants the public to know there are real people like her son who will be affected by the court’s ruling.
Durbin once again argued the Senate should wait to confirm the next Supreme Court justice until after the election.
Trump, a Republican, quickly moved to nominate Barrett, a Chicago-based federal appeals judge, to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died Sept. 18 at age 87.
