(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An expert on infectious diseases says there are easy ways to make sure COVID test you get is legitimate.
State officials have announced a crackdown on unregulated and disreputable COVID-testing sites as demand for tests skyrockets.
Dr. Mercedes Carnethon of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University recommends people schedule tests with a pharmacy or their doctor or medical provider.
People can also find legitimate testing sites by visiting the web sites of the state or local health departments, she notes.
If you suspect you have contracted the virus, Carnethon said you should remain in isolation until getting a negative test result.
Gov. JB Pritzker has asked the Illinois Attorney General to investigate unregulated COVID testing sites and take action against any that have scammed customers.
