CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A judicial watchdog is out with an evaluation of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. It says, basically, Foxx is not perfect, but Chicago and the county could do a lot worse.

The report comes from the Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts, which advocates for a progressive approach to prosecutions.

It evaluates Foxx’s actions compared to her campaign promises, and the report commends Foxx for charging fewer people with felonies for driving on a suspended license and for rejecting more felony retail theft charges.

Sarah Staudt, Director of Policy for the Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts, said she is aware some people blame Foxx for her role in what Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey has called the “hellhole” of Chicago.

“Yeah, I know,” Staudt said, “And I think that that’s really dead wrong.”

“The reason we know it’s dead wrong is because, although there has been a rise in some kinds of crime in Chicago, that rise matches a rise in crime that’s happening unfortunately all over the country,” she said.

The organization’s report says Foxx “has made important progress de-emphasizing prosecution of certain charges,” but hasn’t gone far enough.

WBBM has asked Foxx to comment on the report.
