HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - We're learning new information about the alleged Highland Park shooter. The suspect Bobby Crimo had two previous encounters with police.

The first incident occurred in April of 2019 when someone called Highland Park police after learning that Crimo had attempted suicide.

“This was a delayed report…Highland Park (police) still responded to the residence a week later, spoke with Crimo, spoke with Crimo’s parents, and the matter was being handled by mental health professionals at that time,” Lake County Major Crimes Task Force spokesman Chris Covelli said.

The second encounter happened in September of 2019 when one of Crimo’s family members contacted police.

“A family member reported that Crimo said he was going to kill everyone and Crimo had a collection of knives,” Covelli added.

16 knives, a dagger, and a sword were taken from his home and Illinois State Police were notified. But, Covelli said there wasn’t a probable cause at the time to warrant an arrest.
