(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Brookfield Zoo is showing off one of its newest additions.
The spring-like weather earlier this week allowed a female nyala calf, which was born on Dec. 5, to venture out into its habitat for the first time.
The animal had spent most of the past three months behind the scenes bonding with her 4-year-old mother, Zola.
A nyala is a spiral-horned antelope. They're common in southern African countries, but the population is be threatened due to loss of natural habitat and hunting.

Brookfield Zoo is one of 16 zoos in North America with a nyala.
The first arrived in 2019.
