CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Buena Park family has lost their pet, a pig named Rosie, who was the unofficial mascot of the neighborhood.
Rosie was a 150-pound fan of sun-bathing, carrot-eating and belly rubs. Bill and Candice Lucas told Block Club their nine-year-old Juliana pig died of old age on Thursday. Bill Lucas said Rosie wasn’t able to walk in her last days but still enjoyed being brushed by their sons, 6-year-old Robert and 4-year-old John.
They got her from an Indiana pig breeder when she was only three pounds and Rosie grew to be a family member, featured in Christmas and baby photos, and even was at their wedding.
Neighbors and some of her 2,000 followers shared their condolences on facebook. Many people, especially those with dogs, wrote of the joy they’d get from seeing her lying in the Lucas’ yard or feeding her carrots at her birthday party last September.
“Thank you for sharing her with the neighborhood. Spotting Rosie was the best part of any family walk,” wrote one.
