Car plows into Crystal Lake house, critically injury 2: Police

CRYSTAL LAKE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people suffered life-threatening injuries when a car left the road in Crystal Lake Wednesday night and slammed into a home.

Police aren’t sure what caused the driver of an SUV to speed through a stop sign and then crash. They have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved, if it was a medical emergency, or even something else.

What police do know is the SUV slammed into a detached garage and appeared to have gone at least partly airborne, coming to rest inside the raised home on the 100 block of Heather Drive.

The homeowner was inside, and was critically injured. The driver was critically injured, as well. Both were taken by helicopter to Condell Medical Center and police described their injuries as life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
