Cardinal Blase Cupich prayed for peace in Ukraine this morning with members of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Cupich joined Bishop Benedict Aleksiychuk.

The cardinal told worshippers this is a difficult moment for the entire world, which is lifting its voice in outrage, and that we must learn from the past.

The cardinal said a friend in Europe shared with him that Ukraine’s Chief rabbi has asked Christians and Jews to recite psalm 31 in prayer for his people. Cupich said the hope of the young is the most powerful weapon against tyranny.

The cardinal said the fighting in Ukraine is about the territorial integrity of a nation  that has been a democracy for 30 years, and the rights of people to select their own government.
