(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 28-year-old Broadview man has been sentenced to more than two decades in state prison for carjacking a motorist who was in a McDonald’s drive-thru three years ago.

A DuPage County judge handed down the sentence to Dallas Dabney on Monday after Dabney pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, prosecutors said.

Early on April 23, 2020 Dabney and an armed accomplice approached a motorist at the drive-thru of a Lombard McDonald’s and demanded his car. The two suspects fled in the stolen car and were chased for a time by Lombard police and later crashed while being pursued by Elmhurst police, officials said.

Both men were taken into custody, and two guns were found in the hijacked vehicle, prosecutors said.

“The message is clear, if you commit a violent crime in DuPage County, you will be apprehended, prosecuted and if found guilty, spend a significant amount of time behind bars,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said.

The case of Dabney’s alleged accomplice is pending.
