(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Village of Skokie has issued a response to the Illinois Secretary of State's office's settlement agreement with Carvana.

Construction has been on hold since May 2022 on what Carvana planned to be a 14-story glass tower to supply and display cars at a plot of land along the Edens Expressway.

Skokie officials say they sent a letter to the online used-car seller alerting it that the ordinance that allowed for construction of the tower in the village had expired.

Now, Carvana will have to submit a new request if it wants to build at the Skokie location, and the approval process will have to start over, official said.

The state had accused Carvana of not following Illinois laws as it sold vehicles to consumers here.
