CFD continue looking out for son of fallen of firefighter

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago firefighters made the first day of school special for the 6-year-old son of one of their colleagues who died earlier this year.

Jared Pelt got a ride to school in a fire truck.

He’s the son of Jermaine Pelt, who was killed in the line of duty fighting a fire in the West Pullman neighborhood.

"We are still touched by it. Probably always going to be touched by it," said Firefighter-EMT Gene Paylor to CBS-2.

“Coming in here, being able to send Jermaine’s son off for his first day of school, considering what happened to his dad, he looked real excited…just to see us out here.”

Ariana Roby is Jared’s mother.

"The outpouring of love for our family has been overwhelming these past few months since this happened," Roby said.

Paylor said Jermaine Pelt’s firefighting family will always support them.
