CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Tuesday was the first day for a new program for young people who live in Chicago Housing Authority units.
It’s for kids aged 13 to 15, young adults who are residents of CHA.
The program itself, Learn and Earn, has actually been around for a decade, but now the CHA has a new direction and a partner: After School Matters. Together, CHA Director of Resident Services Ebony Campbell said, they’re offering teenagers a glimpse at a dream job.
Kids will select a career track.
“And they’ll be placed in pods and they’ll be doing some e-learning, some project-based activities, they’ll be going on field trips that are centered around their particular career interests and goals,” Campbell said.
The 520 teenagers in the program will also be earning some money — $100 a week for six weeks.
