Chicago’s top health official said the city is on board with the Centers for Disease Control’s latest guidance, that fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks outdoors in many circumstances.
Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said the city’s mask guidance will conform to CDC guidance announced Tuesday by President Biden. It generally says fully vaccinated people can go without wearing a mask in uncrowded outdoor settings, such as when someone is jogging.
Even vaccinated people should keep wearing masks at crowded outdoor events such as concerts or sporting events, federal officials said.
“When you are fully vaccinated, you don’t need to do the testing, you don’t need to do the quarantine related to travel,” Arwady said Tuesday in the wake of the CDC announcement. “If you’re fully vaccinated, you can be meeting in groups indoors without really significant concern.”
Arwady said this is another sign that normalcy is returning. She said she anticipates even more easing of restrictions soon.
