CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The sign on the door of the Chicago barbershop says “No political talk,” and the owner wants to keep it that way for awhile.

“No political talk. You will be asked to leave,” is the full message on the door of Northside Barber Shop in Ravenswood.

“I know barbershops used to be the cornerstone for political talk in a lot of neighborhoods. I never really liked that approach,” owner Jared Sorkin told WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller on Thursday.

Sorkin decided to put the sign up on Wednesday.

“All the barbers, we were kind of talking the night before. We were all watching the results, and we were on Facebook and things are getting heated everywhere. And that was kind of the decision. It was getting a little wild.”

Sorkin said posting the sign was a preemptive move. There was never a hair-pulling, razors-out political fight in the barber shop.

With a small numbers of his clients, he said, the potential is there for some unpleasantness.

“It’s just that right now it’s a sensitive and scary time for a lot of people,” he said.

The sign will be up for least a few days, Sorkin said.
