CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — During Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears won’t be the only ones in the spotlight.

Twenty-two Bears players and seven coaches will be participating in the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” initiative, in which professional footballers have the chance to draw attention to charities and organizations trying to make a difference off the field.

Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus, who’s highlighting the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center with his shoes on Sunday, told WBBM’s Jeff Joniak that the so-called “Z Center” is about more than emotional support for survivors of sexual abuse.

“Also education for the young kids on what’s appropriate, who they can go to for safety, who they can talk to about it,” Eberflus said. “It’s great. Kelly, my wife, visited there a few weeks ago. She was blown away with their services and the people there, and the energy in that building.”

Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, who’s supporting Beyond the Baby Blues, said his choice came down to an issue that’s important to him and his family.

“[It’s a] local group here that supports women who have postpartum depression," Poles said. "We’ve gone through that as a family, and we know how hard that is, so we wanted to support it and bring some awareness to it. Hopefully we can do some good things and affect the community.”

Even Staley, the Bears mascot, is donning special kicks for Sunday’s game as it supports the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

Players and coaches will have the option to auction off their shoes in an effort to raise more money for their chosen causes.
