CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city of Chicago and Cook County are now offering many options for COVID-19 vaccinations for children between the ages of five and eleven and encouraging parents to take advantage.
Chicago’s Public Health Commissioner Dr. Alison Arwady said there’s plenty of the lower-dose Pfizer vaccine for children and no shortage of options for parents at doctors' offices, pharmacies, county medical facilities and mobile clinics.
She offered some tips for parents. "You do wanna talk to your child about getting the vaccine and you wanna be honest about that. If it's a younger child, you may not wanna talk about it for days or weeks ahead of having that appointment," Arwady advised.
"Try not to give them false ideas. Don't say 'you won't feel a thing'. Don't focus though on pain. We know children worry about getting shots."
Parents can get questions answered and make appointments on the city’s and the county’s websites by walking in, on the phone, or online.
Appointments can be made at chi.gov/covidvax or vaccine.cookcountyil.gov.
