Proof-of-vaccination mandates start Monday in Chicago and suburban Cook County

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sunday may be a good day to take a picture of your vaccination card or sign up for the state’s Vax Verify system. Chicago and suburban Cook County’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate kicks in Monday.

Cook County has joined the city in requiring proof of vaccine at bars, restaurants,  movie theaters, concert venues, arcades, sports arenas and anywhere else where food and drink are served.

That’s for anyone over age 5. Those 16 and older will also have to show an ID in addition to their card, a picture of their card or an app showing they’ve received two doses of Moderna or Pfizer or one shot of Johnson & Johnson.

The county public health department cites a test positivity rate of 7.8% last week as well as just over 10% of beds in intensive care units available in making the mandate.
