CPD Supt. Brown: Officers doing ‘great work’ despite battle over COVID-19 shot mandate

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As city leaders and Chicago police union officials continue to squabble over COVID-19 vaccine mandates, Police Superintendent David Brown said he’s focused on the positives and saving lives.

Brown and other CPD leaders on Monday met the media to announce multiple weekend arrests, including several gang members accused of trafficking guns into the city from St. Louis.

Still, the tug of war over vaccine mandates was a key talking point.

"This is great work, doing all this conversation that we're talking about today as it related to guns and gangs. This is great work. And this was in the midst of the mandate with," Brown said.

With word that 57% of the Chicago Police Department is now vaccinated, Brown said raising that number is a top priority but that officers' day-to-day work must not be ignored.

"These are hardworking men and women who are dedicated to protecting the people Chicago. The vaccine mandate is important but they're doing the great work of protecting the city," Brown said.
