(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A state legislator on Mayor Johnson's transition team says word that the Chicago Bears are listening to bids for the team to move to Naperville or elsewhere is good news for Chicago.

State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, said if the Bears are willing to talk with communities besides Arlington Heights there are no foregone conclusions.

The Bears have begun demolishing the old Arlington Racetrack, but news broke last week that Naperville is in the potential mix for a stadium as the team tries to keep its costs down.

“It should send a signal to Chicago that there is a still an opportunity, still a chance, that the Chicago Bears will play their home games in the city of Chicago,” Buckner said.

The Bears for years have leased Soldier Field for home games and have been at odds with Chicago administrations going back at least to Richard M. Daley’s tenure. They threatened to move before, too.

Buckner said Johnson is committed to talking with the Bears about keeping them at their current home or even some new facility in Chicago.
