(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago tradition will return this summer after a two-year pandemic hiatus.

Organizers say the Pride parade will return. It’s tentatively scheduled to make its way through the streets of Uptown and Lake View on June 26.

The pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 parade. Last year's edition had been scheduled for October to give people more time to get vaccines, but it, too, was canceled during the coronavirus surge of the Delta variant.

Organizers say this year's event will depend on the trajectory of the pandemic at the time. They say they’re cautiously optimistic.

The pride parade regularly drew crowds of more than 100,000 people in years past.
