(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Through the magic of Hollywood, one block on the North Side has snow on the ground and a West Side company is making up for business it lost this year because of COVID-19.

After 50 years as head of Harris Ice, owner Walker Harris has quite a list of clients. But mostly, they haven’t needed him this year because they don’t need ice.

“We do Soldier Field—nothing there. We do White Sox—nothing there. We do McCormick Place—nothing there,” Walker said Thursday. “Our sales are way down. We’re down 40 percent.”

But Harris says for now, they’re on solid ground. That is because Disney Channel needs snow on the ground to shoot the production Christmas Again in Ravenswood.

“It’s worked out for me because it’s wintertime, and in wintertime my business is slower than ever because people are not looking for ice.

“So, it was a great opportunity for us to get this piece of business.”

Harris said the movie calls for 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of snow — or crushed ice — every day. And for days when it’s warmer: 15,000 pounds.
