
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man faces federal charges for allegedly trafficking drugs and a submachine gun in Chicago.
Josue Canales, 28, allegedly trafficked a loaded Israeli Military Industries Model submachine gun to another person on Dec. 15, 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois said in a statement Thursday.
Canales, of Chicago, also allegedly distributed cocaine in the city on four occasions in 2019, prosecutors said. He was arrested Wednesday and has made an appearance in court.
If convicted, Canales faces a maximum of 40 years in prison for one of the four drug counts, the attorney’s office said.
The other drug charges are each punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years.
The gun charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
