(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago's next mayor, Brandon Johnson, sought to accentuate the positive after their first face-to-face meeting since Tuesday's runoff election.
Both briefly answered questions after their hourlong meeting in the Loop.
The governor said the meeting did not include discussions of one of Johnson's signature budget proposals: a tax on real estate sales valued over $1 million. Pritzker has not supported it, but stressed he and Johnson share many goals.
“The challenge of finding balance between expenditures and revenue is not lost on me,” Pritzker said.
The new mayor is set to be sworn in May 15.
A day earlier, Johnson met with incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot at City Hall. She pledged a smooth handoff with her successor.
