CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday said fighting crime on the Magnificent Mile or on mass transit has got to be a team effort.

At an unrelated event, Lightfoot said her administration hears the pleas of CTA bus drivers who’ve been attacked on the job recently and said action’s being taken.

Lightfoot said she’s been talking with the transit unions and police are aggressively going after those who attack CTA Bus drivers and other transit workers:

But, she said the courts must also make sure perpetrators who are caught are locked up. And she said the same is true of the mobs who’ve been committing smash and grab burglaries downtown.

And while she’s not backing down on her suggesting downtown merchants do more to protect their own stores, she said patrols are being stepped up.

Again, Lightfoot said the courts most do their part to hold wrongdoers accountable as well.
