CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Mayor Lori Lightfoot seemed to be somewhat supportive of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s planned tax cuts, even if Chicago will get a little less revenue.

Pritzker’s budget is expected to include suspending the state’s 1% tax on groceries, freezing what would have been a hike in the gasoline tax and giving homeowners a property tax rebate.

Local governments would get shares of some tax revenue, and Lightfoot cautioned that she and her people hadn’t had a good look at the details but sounded like she favored it.

The mayor said people are hurting right now, hit with rising costs for necessities.

She said people need relief and that’s what leadership is all about.

There would likely be more response from Lightfoot after Pritzker makes his address.
