CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two wild crashes on two different area expressways made for quite the morning commute.

The first occurred on the Outbound Eisenhower near Fifth Avenue around 6 a.m.. A multi-vehicle crash led to an SUV on top of the median separating the inbound and outbound lanes. Injuries were reported. As traffic began to back up there was another crash near River Road, blocking multiple lanes.

Crews had the crash near Fifth Avenue cleaned up in an hour. However, a residual delay of over 5 miles existed for the 7 a.m. rush hour.

A strikingly similar crash happened on the Inbound Stevenson. At about 7 a.m., a car in the far left lane, north of Cicero, landed on that expressway’s barrier wall. It is unknown if this crash involved injuries.

The cause of these crazy crashes remains under investigation.

It was an eventful morning on the Kennedy as well. There was a crash in the express lanes near North Avenue in the 5 a.m. hour.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBBM Newsradio for the latest traffic information.
