(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A special and unique baby shower is planned for next month on Chicago’s South Side.

The non-profit Project HOOD is behind what organizers say will be the world’s largest baby shower Aug. 13 at New Beginnings Church in the 6620 South King Drive.

“We wanted to figure out a way to assist and give resources to a lot of these single-parent women who are in need of help with their newborns,” says Pastor Corey Brooks, founder and CEO of Project HOOD.

“Eighty percent of the households in our neighborhood are single-parent households,” he said. “We’re promoting life, and so what better way to do that than assist them with prenatal care?”

Brooks is asking for the public’s help, either by donating supplies or volunteering for the shower.

He said nearly 800 women have already signed up. The goal is 1,000.

“I’m sure we’re going to make that,” Brooks said.
