
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Eleven years after his death, a Chicago police officer was remembered in the community he served.
The Chicago Police Department shared video of officers and community members gathering in the 15th District, in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, to remember officer Clifton Lewis.
Lewis was shot and killed while off-duty. He was working his second job as a security officer at a neighborhood convenience store on Austin Boulevard. It was Dec. 29, 2011.
According to Chicago Police Spokesman Tom Ahern, Lewis was attempting to stop an armed robbery when he was killed.
Lewis had served with the Chicago Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his daughter, mother, and fiance.
Three men were charged in his death, and all three cases are still ongoing.
