16-year-old charged with carjacking 72-year-old man, then crashing vehicle on South Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A teen is set to appear in court Wednesday for carjacking an elderly man Tuesday morning in Chicago’s Wrightwood neighborhood.

Chicago police said the carjacking took place at Sacramento Avenue and West 87th Street when a 16-year-old pulled a 72-year-old man from his car.

The teen implied that he had a weapon before driving off in the man's car. The car crashed nearby, at Carpenter and 81st Streets, police said.

Authorities said he was arrested 30 minutes later.

No additional information is available at this time.
