CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Police Department is hosting gun turn-in events at five locations throughout the city tomorrow.

The department is partnering with religious institutions for this effort.

“We traditionally hosted gun turn-ins by the department, where we would have people come in and turn in guns at the stations," said Glen Brooks, CPD’s director of community policing.

"I can tell you unequivocally, the most success that we have ever had with our gun turn-in initiatives has been partnering with the faith-based community. They are invaluable partners, they provide a safe location where we can have these guns turned-in and people feel comfortable knowing that they’re going to walk out with their $100 with no questions asked."

The difference between doing this at a church as opposed to a police station, he said, can be hundreds of guns.

They’ll pay $100 for a gun and $10 for replicas, BB guns or Airsoft guns.

The event is taking place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the following locations:

Uptown Baptist Church – 1011 West Wilson Avenue

New Life Covenant – 3400 West Division

People’s Church of the Harvest – 3570 West Fifth Avenue

House of Hope – 752 East 114th Street

New Beginnings Church – 6620 South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive
