CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police have issued community alerts to residents of two districts on the city’s North and Near West Sides.
Authorities said there were at least nine street robberies in the 12th and 19th Districts between last Wednesday and Friday, with most of the crimes occurring late at night or very early in the morning.
The 12th District is Near West, and the 19th District is Town Hall, on the North Side.
In each robbery, police said multiple armed young men approached people on the street and demanded their property.
The men were wearing ski masks, and on two occasions the victims were beaten, police said.
After the robberies, the men get into a waiting car and speed away.
