CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police are asking for the public's help in finding the gunmen in two separate mass shootings over the weekend.
The shootings were four hours apart late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The first mass shooting was Saturday evening at 87th Place and Cottage Grove Avenue.
CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said one person was killed and five others were wounded when two men opened fire on a group of people.
"All these individuals were there at gathering for a memorial, so it was at a residence We had people inside the house, in the front yard and in the back. Like I said, in the alley where the incident occurred. Two offenders emerged from an alley, started shooting and then fled the scene," Deenihan said.
The next mass shooting happened just after 1 a.m. at Lake Street and Homan Avenue on the West Side. One man was killed and four others were wounded.
In all, seven people were killed and 39 were wounded in weekend violence across the city.
