CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- This weekend Chicago police continued to struggle to contain drivers doing donuts during takeovers of intersections – and the violence that erupts when they break them up.
Chicago police wouldn’t comment on reports of early morning drag racing in Pilsen and Archer Heights. Police radio had calls of people throwing objects at squad cars.
The department tweeted a warning that a new city ordinance means those caught drag racing and drifting could have their vehicles impounded and face fines of up to $10,000 dollars.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that drivers from 14 states came to a street takeover at 119th and Halsted late Friday night. A police spokesperson said two 18 year-olds from Chicago were arrested hours later for disorderly conduct and other violations. One had his car impounded.
