Six artists affiliated with independent Chicago record label win big at Blues Music Awards

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An independent Chicago record label is adding to its trophy case.

Six Alligator Records artists have received Blues Music Awards. Tommy Castro was named the "B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year."

Charlie Musselwhite won "Acoustic Album Of The Year" for - "Mississippi Son." Shemekia Copeland was named "Instrumentalist Of The Year" in the "Vocals" category.

Christone "Kingfish" Ingram took him the award for "Contemporary Blues Male Artist Of The Year." Curtis Salgado won "Soul Blues Male Artist Of The Year" and Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith of the Cash Box Kings won "Instrumentalist Of The Year" for drums.

The 44th Annual Blues Music Awards were held in Memphis, Tennessee.
