(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A local restaurant group is asking others to help feed migrants as the city of Chicago faces a continuing surge in arrivals.
Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez, 25th, was among those on hand as the food was being delivered to a make-shift shelter for migrants in the 2000 block of South Racine.
“There is a lot of things we can do. One thing that we cannot do is sit and watch the inhumanity in front of us,” he said.
Cafe Sophie, part of the Etta Collective restaurant group, will be feeding the dozens of migrants once a week for a minimum of three weeks.
“Maybe we’ll make an example for others to follow,” said David Pisor, Etta Collective founder.
More than 8,000 migrants have been sent to Chicago from the U.S. Southern Border over the past several months.
