CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —    Chicago's Department of Public Health said Friday it will operate a vaccine clinic at The Loretto Hospital starting next week -- but exclusively for people living in Austin.

The city cut off Loretto's vaccine supply after a string of reports in Block Club Chicago last month revealed that its vaccines were going to ineligible people with ties to hospital staff.

The scandal is believed to have forced the hospital's chief operating officer to resign.

The new city-managed clinic begins operating Monday at the safety-net hospital.

“More than anything, our goal is to get this lifesaving vaccine to the residents of Austin and their neighbors on the West Side who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic,” Health Commissioner Allison Arwady said in a news release.

The free vaccinations are by appointment to people aged 18 and over who live in Austin. Proof of address will be needed on the day of the appointment.
