In less than two weeks, the city of Chicago will expand the list of people eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Mayor Lightfoot said the city on March 29 will move into Phase 1C.

Eligibility will open up to city residents 16 and up with chronic health conditions and a greater variety of workers who are considered essential. The new additions to this sector include restaurant workers, hotel employees, hair dressers, clergy members and delivery and warehouse workers, the mayor said.

Chicago’s Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said this could translate into qualifying Phase 1C recipients getting appointments in April or May.

“Underscore: April or May,” she said.

If the federal government delivers the supplies of vaccines it’s expected to, everybody in Chicago could be eligible for a vaccine starting on May 1.
