(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With the Democratic National Convention coming to Chicago next year, officials say the pressure is on to ensure that it benefits the entire city and not just downtown and the hospitality industry.
At a Union League Club forum, Michael Fassnacht, CEO of World Business Chicago, said organizers of the 2024 DNC want it to be the most neighborhood-centric convention in the Democratic Party's history.
Details are still being worked out, but Fassnacht said he envisions opportunities for residents from all 77 communities.
“How can we activate all the residents of Chicago, make this a whole, communal event?”
West Side Ald. Walter Burnett Jr., whose 27th Ward includes the United Center, said he will expect many convention-related jobs and contracts to benefit minority communities.
