CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot received thunderous applause from the faith community of the JLM Abundant Life Center on the Near West Side Saturday morning as she helped kick off the city’s COVID-19 Vaccine Faith Initiative.
The mayor was joined by local state and national elected officials and by Walgreens international CEO Roz Brewer.
“I am thrilled to announce that today in partnership with Walgreens Boots Alliance, we are kicking off the faith initiative here in Chicago,” Lightfoot told the audience.
The mayor said that over the next three weeks more than 10,000 residents from over 70 houses of worship throughout the city will be vaccinated at 13 clinics run by Walgreens.
“This effort is part of Walgreens’ vaccine equity initiative, which will provide education to address vaccine hesitancy and foster partnerships that meet the needs of our communities,” Lightfoot continued.
The initiative includes hosting COVID-19 vaccination sites in more than 100 underserved communities across the country. More than 5,000 Walgreens pharmacy locations will expand access to COVID testing in socially vulnerable areas.
