GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Many Chicagoans are heading over the border to Indiana to get COVID-19 vaccines, where there are no residency requirements.
The FEMA run-mass vaccination site in Gary has been busy with plenty of Illinois license plates in the lot at Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy. The mass vaccination site opened on Tuesday.
Mary Taylor Blasi told CBS 2 she came from Rogers Park on the North Side for the shot.
“We also have a young one at home who is more at-risk. The more that we can do to get vaccinated, the better it is for him,” Blasi said.
She and others there say they haven’t been able to schedule vaccines in Chicago or the suburb so they were expanding their search.
One person was considering going to the state capital in Springfield before finding a shot at the Gary site.
