CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —The coordinator of Chicago’s Pride Parade says it’s safe to assume the parade won’t happen when it traditionally steps off, in June.
The last Sunday in June is the day the North Halsted area is usually filled with Pride Parade events.
But not last year. And probably not this year, either.
Pride Parade Coordinator Tim Frye on Wednesday said the parade will probably be postponed until the fall.
“I’m just making an educated guess here: somewhere in September,” Frye said. “Maybe even the first Sunday in October, which actually would kick off Pride History Month.”
Frye said he’s glad some suburbs are planning drive-by parades this summer, something he says is unlikely in the city of Chicago.
“Wouldn’t work in a minute,” he said, laughing.
“I’ve thought about it, to tell you the truth. But I can’t see it working. It just — it wouldn’t happen. People wouldn’t stay in their houses.”
