CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago Police Supt. David Brown on Thursday addressed a drug bust that happened this month involving the personal car of one of the city’s highest-ranking officers.

It was Internal Affair Chief Yolanda Talley’s niece who reportedly was behind the wheel of Talley’s Lexus when the niece’s 34-year old passenger was arrested on drug charges.

“As soon as we heard about the incident, we immediately forwarded the circumstances to the inspector general. There’s no evidence of any misconduct by Chief Talley,” Brown said, adding that the incident is under investigation by an independent third party.

The drug suspect was a confidential police informant, according to a report from the news site CWBChicago.

Brown would neither confirm nor deny that the suspect was an informant but he did say that if any Chicago police officers were involved in releasing information like that, they would be dealt with severely.

“I believe it is the lowest form of character and ethical conduct,” the superintendent said.

Aside from that, Brown said it’s dangerous.

The city’s top cop said he knows there’s gossip, rumor and innuendo out there but people should wait for all the facts to come out.

“It should be fair to everyone not to comment on an ongoing investigation and tip the scales either way, particularly from my position, on the facts,” Brown said.
