WBBM Newsradio on Friday Dec. 3 is hosting the Good Neighbor Radiothon from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to benefit the Salvation Army. Here is a look at one of the organization's programs and how it helps those in need.
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Salvation Army debuted a new camp for kids last year, born out of the pandemic.
In a normal summer, busloads of inner city children traveled to Wonderland camp in Wisconsin to swim, hike, and sleepover, but many of the camps were canceled last year due to COVID-19. Captain Heather Montenegro said the JUMP day camp brings the camp to the children via community centers throughout the Chicago area.
"Typically through the jump programs, they did STEM activities- science experiments," she said.
"Our divisional music department went to each jump day camp and provided music arts explorations, so some of the kids learned new musical instruments. Some did art. Some did dance."
JUMP day camps were held in Chicago, Chicago, Midway and Waukegan. To donate to the Salvation Army, visit wbbmnewsradio.com/donate or call 844-361-8400.
