(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While many voters are thinking about the statewide and congressional elections in just over two weeks, the field of candidates running for Chicago mayor in four months is expected to grow.
Congressman Chuy Garcia started circulating nominating petitions over the weekend. The website readyforchuy.com encourages voters to help him get the more than 12,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot.
Garcia forced a runoff in 2015 before losing to incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Meantime, the American Federation of Teachers is donating $1 million to a campaign by Brandon Johnson. Before being elected to the Cook County Board, Johnson taught in the Chicago Public Schools and was a paid employee of the Chicago Teachers Union, which endorsed him last month.
Neither he nor Garcia have announced they’re running as of yet.
