CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two months after his girlfriend was carjacked in January, a Chicago man received a speeding ticket in the mail.
The $100 speeding ticket is bad enough, but Sam Royko said a thief was at the wheel when the city of Chicago speed cameras flagged it.
He told CBS 2 the ticket arrived about two months after his girlfriend was carjacked in Wicker Park.
“Of course, my reaction when I got this was, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I just got a ticket for my girlfriend getting carjacked for like six hours later,” Royko said.
Royko said he wants to know why the city didn't check with police to see the car was stolen. It was found damaged a few days later.
Royko, who's a lawyer and the son of late columnist Mike Royko, is working on a campaign to stop carjackings in Chicago through his group, Greater West Town Community Coalition, and he plans to fight the $100 fine.
