CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Clergy members of various faiths gathered at church on Chicago’s West Side Wednesday demanding that Illinois lawmakers pass a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

About 40 clergy members from throughout the city and some suburbs stood together with a message for state lawmakers at the Good Hope Free Will Baptist Church.

Rev. Marshall Hatch was part of the group.

"Assault weapons have nothing to do with sports. They have nothing to do with home protection," he emphasized. "They have nothing to do with the protection of second amendment rights."

Rabbi Ike Serotta made the trip from Highland Park. "When it comes to preventing violence and saving lives, there are no borders," he said.
