CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Construction of a new hospital in Crystal Lake is going faster than expected.
According to the Mercyhealth hospital system, the facility will be completed in early 2023, about six months ahead of schedule.
Groundbreaking had been delayed multiple times due to a lawsuit and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center–Crystal Lake will be located at the intersection of Three Oaks Road and Route 31.
The facility will feature a hospital with private inpatient and intensive care suites, surgery suites, emergency care and diagnostic services, as well primary and specialty care physician offices, a news release stated.
“We are pleased that construction is moving along so quickly, and are excited to open sooner than we originally anticipated,” said Javon R. Bea, president and CEO of Mercyhealth. “This project has been a long, 25-year journey as we persisted in our efforts to bring much-needed emergency care and hospital services to the Crystal Lake community. We are pleased our plans are coming to fruition.”
More than 350 new jobs in construction and trades were expected during the facility’s construction, Bea said at the June groundbreaking.
An additional 134 permanent health care jobs also are expected to come with the new hospital.
