CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — At the administration building in the Loop, Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough said that as the April 4 consolidated election closes in, there’s a need for at least 1,000 more poll workers, including election judges and polling place technicians.

“We are facing a shortage,” Yarbrough said. “In return for their service, election judges will receive $250. Polling place technicians will make $385 for the day.”

The application process through the Cook County Clerk website is simple, said Edmund Michalowski, the deputy clerk of elections for Cook County.

“It’s done through an election portal directly on the website,” Michalowski said. “If somebody is a suburban Cook County voter we already have you in the database.”

Chicago voters can also help out with the suburban cook county election process.

“It just takes us a couple extra steps to authenticate that, and we’re doing that on a rolling basis, day-to-day,” he said.

Trainings will take place across the suburbs on Tuesday, April 28, or online at any time, if needed.

“We’re looking for veterans, college and high school students, and bilingual residents,” said Yarbrough. “Anybody who’s interested in helping us with this process.”

The paychecks will be mailed about two weeks after the April 4 election.
