(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County Health was expected to release 8,000 first-dose appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday evening for doses that would be given Thursday April 1.
The health system, which is coordinating several vaccination locations in the Chicago region, will release the slots at 6 p.m. (click here to register and receive a sign-up code).
Recipients must be eligible under Phases 1A, 1B and 1C of vaccine distribution — basically, anyone 65 and over; adults with medical conditions; and a wide array of essential workers.
Officials say the large number of appointments have materialized because of “shipment delays.”
Cook County Health said additional appointments could be released as early as Thursday.

The call center will remain open until 10 p.m. Wednesday to accommodate the new release.
